The Week the Benches Outscored the Boardrooms

Across all four leagues, front offices watched their best assets rot on the pine while lesser men took the field and lost anyway.

There is a particular smell to a bad decision once it has had a week to age, and by Tuesday morning the whole syndicate reeked of it. Week 1 didn't just produce losers. It produced a class of executives who beat themselves, filed the paperwork, and then had the nerve to check the box score twice hoping the ink had changed.

Start in Dynasty, where Isaiah Likely sat on enough benches to open a furniture showroom. JayP benched him for Colston Loveland's donut of a zero, a 29.8-point self-inflicted wound that now sits atop the league's all-time ledger of regret. Not to be outdone, JayP benched him again the very same week for Sam LaPorta, because apparently once wasn't a strong enough statement of principle. Across town, mshields32 rode Bo Nix into a ditch while Bryce Young quietly authored a 34.7-point fireworks display from the inactive list, a decision so committed to its own logic it happened twice.

That same Bryce Young game haunted 2 Fast 2 Beerious, where xAsianTRex parked him behind Justin Herbert's pedestrian 16.5 and paid for it with a 79.5-point defeat, now the single worst beating in that league's recorded history. History, it should be noted, keeps a long memory and no sympathy.

Over in BEERFL 2026, Christian Watson and Jalen Coker ran a two-man haunted house. mounder21 benched Watson not once but twice in the same afternoon, first for DeVonta Smith, then for Terry McLaurin, a doubling-down that would be admirable in a poker player and is simply sad in a franchise architect. Meanwhile jcoey benched Coker's 29.8 for George Pickens' 4.3, a swing large enough to be visible from space, and still somehow avoided the league's actual bottom line, where JayP won with a bottom-17-percentile output and walked away looking respectable by comparison.

The Exhibition league, mercifully, kept its drama to a single game worth mentioning without shame: mounder21 survived egilber870 by 0.9 points, the only squeaker in a week otherwise defined by blowouts and self-sabotage. OrrElseWhat, for the record, benched Coker twice in that same league, because consistency, even in error, is apparently a virtue somewhere.

And then there's taylorbcool, who lost in three leagues simultaneously this week, a cross-syndicate collapse rare enough that the copy desk had to double-check the byline wasn't a typo. It wasn't. Some weeks just belong to the bench.
